ALBERT SANFORD

Galerie Maximillian owner Albert Sanford has been a fine art collector and dealer for over 35 years. He acquired his first work of art – a Vintage French poster – at 16 years of age and while studying in Paris at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques became a private dealer of rare vintage posters. In February of 1982, People Magazine wrote an article naming Albert as an “up and coming art collector and dealer.”

After graduating from Middlebury College in Vermont with a M.S. in French and Political Science, Albert continued to develop his skills as an art dealer at Merrill Chase Galleries, an internationally renowned group of galleries owned by the Pritzker family of Chicago. While there, he developed a passion and expertise for fine prints, mounted several museum quality exhibitions and ultimately became the President and CEO.

In 1997 Albert and his wife Dorothy Wildman moved permanently to Aspen to open Galerie Maximillian. His concept for the gallery is to present important historic masterworks on paper alongside contemporary European work with an emphasis on Young British Artists. The gallery’s philosophy is simple: “We would not present anything in the gallery that we would not be comfortable hanging in our own home. We want our friends and clients to be excited about visiting our gallery in Aspen and hope that we can share our passion for fine art with them.”

In addition to dealing in fine art, Albert enjoys skiing, biking, occasional golf, travel and walking Hank and Lucy on the Rio Grande Trail.
